Nothing is mass produced so each piece becomes an original.

I am starting to use several new techniques this year so look for some very interesting pieces.

A Little Bit About Making Silver Jewelry

When I decided to experiment with the precious metal clays I had no idea how much work went into it, but I did know the clay was expensive.

I have to first make the original piece and than make a mold from it. The clay dries very fast so I have very little time between getting the small piece of clay into the mold, getting it out and than doing the fine detailing. The smaller the piece the harder it is to do, especially with arthritic hands.

After it dries for 24 hours it than needs to be fired in a kiln. After it is fired and cooled it has to be cleaned with a wire brush, than a cleaning cloth and the last thing I do to each piece is to burnish it. Burnishing is what brings out the beautiful shine.

Photographing shiny jewelry is very difficult and the pictures never do it justice. Someday maybe I will learn how to photograph it to bring out the best.
